Day 25

Good morning athletes,

The sun is shinning and the wind is blowing but for once my muscles arn’t aching. I am really starting to get the hang of my recovery routine after work outs, making sure I don’t tighten up.

Last night we unfortunately lost in overtime 6-5 to Prescott and will be heading down there tonight for Game 6… Trailing the series 3-2.

So untill tomorrow, xoxo

Day 23

Good evening athletes,

Today’s workout was very intimidating.

WOD: 10 minutes AMRAP

2 rounds of:

•20 Cleans (65lbs)                                 •15 Box Jumps

2 rounds of:

•20 Cleans (95lbs)                                 •15 Box Jumps

AMRAP of:

•20 Cleans (135lbs)                                  •15 Box Jumps

I started off this workout strong but stupid. My first 2 rounds of 65lbs Cleans I did strict. When i got to 95lbs i started to get really tired because i gassed myself the rounds before. By the time i got to the rounds of 135lbs i was to tired to get more then 1 rep before the time ran out.

The whole clan was here today, all of us putting out a great effort and ‘S’ showing us up like usually.

Very proud to hear ‘S’ and King P will be trying out for the CrossFit Games this year. Goodluck to all and especially to you two!!

Xoxo,

Day 21

Good afternoon athletes,

Today may not have been as bad as the ‘Wolf Pack’ but it was forsure a killer.

Wod: Complete the following for time:

•50 Hand Release Push-ups                  •20 DB snatch Left hand                        •40 Hand Release Push-ups                  •20 DB snatch Right Hand                      •30 Hand Release Push-Ups                   •20 DB Snatch Left Hand                       •20 Hand Release Push-ups                 •20 DB Snatch Right Hand                     •10 Hand Release Push-Ups

I found I really struggled with the push-ups but I couldn’t give up because i was determined to beat King P today. The snatches didn’t bother me exept for the first round, i just didn’t expect the 50lbs DB would be so heavy. My shoulders and pecks were throbbing for quite a bit after this workout but it was a throbbing most guys like to feel when looking for gains. Of course i lost to King P but wasn’t far behind with a time of 12:28.

A couple posts ago I wondered if King has gone soft, we now all know that he didn’t.

Untill next time, xoxo

Assignment 1

1. CrossFit makes use of three different standards or models for evaluating and guiding fitness. Summarize all three.

First Standard Summary: There are ten recognized general physical skills. They are cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. They are catagorized by how they are improved – training, practice and adaptations of both training and practice.

Second Standard Summary: This is about the views that fitness is about performing well at every task imaginable. By practice, it encourages an athlete to improve sets, rest periods, reps, exercises and routines.

Third Standard Summary: There are three metabolic pathways that provide energy for the human body. The three are; phosphagen pathway, glycolytic pathway and oxidative pathway. They are divided by how much enegry they can provide you for the type of activity you are doing.

2. What is the difference between practice and training when it comes to overall fitness?

The differnce between training and practice when it comes to overall fitness comes down to the body and nervous system. Training refers to an activity that improves performance through a measurable organic change in the body. Where as practice refers to activity that improves performance through change in the nervous system.

3. After reading about CrossFit’s three models for evaluating and guiding fitness you should have a pretty good idea why they design the WODS the way they do. Combine the three and tell me what is CrossFit’s overall definition of fitness.

After thinking about the three standards and putting them together, my theory of CrossFit’s definition of fitness is that it’s totally insane but with effort and commitment, a great way to become healthier and more fit. They make their workouts in a way you are targeting many different physical skills all in one exercise. Their workouts train all three pathways because of how intense and long some of them make you work. It also gives you the metally tough gritt to want to perform your very best at your exercise because you’re not just competing agaisnt another person but agaisnt your body. The workouts put your body through pain and suffering but through training you mentally develop confidence in yourself to push though.

Day 20

Good afternoon fello CrossFit Athletes,

As we all just found out, King P wasn’t as soft as we thought he was. He made a Monday worse then anyone thought a Monday could be. Today, we tackled the “WolfPack”.

WolfPack for time:

• 1 lap of school                                        • 400 air squats                                          • 400 sit ups                                               • 200 wall ball shots                                  • 200 thrusters                                          • 100 knees to elbows                               • 100 burpee box jumps                          • 1 lap of school

I have never been so tired during a workout before. We were allowed a group of 3 and i chose to work with King P and “Golden Boy”. Of course, working with King P i had to push myself to my full limits which i almost did. During burpee box jumps i was ready to puke and i think i might have been crying, there was for sure teers atleast. It was a good workout, targeting most major muscles of the body as well as cardiovascular training. I can tell already my shoulders are getting stronger, which was one of my goals going into this course. We finished with a time of 44:58.

S decided to sit on the sidelines for this workout, leaving all the men to be put through pain. Her excuse was “i already worked out this morning”. But, i won’t hold it agaisnt her. Lonley Boy forsure felt lonely when i left him for King P, looks like he’s going to have to step it up if he wants my attention anymore. And lets not forget about our Bad Boy Jerrad, leading his pack to the finish line of the workout.

I don’t know about anyone else but i’m glad all my classes are on first floor, meaning no stairs for me tomorrow.

Untill tomorrow, xoxo

Day 19

The weekend is almost over and King P has finally got me hooked on committing to the “Rat Tail”. It is for a great cause and i am more then happy to do whatever it takes to raise money for cancer research. So everyone listen to annoucements within the upcoming weeks for info on Relay For Life!

xoxo,

Another day goes by and yet another senior privilege.

Hoops for Heart was fun and a great way to keep the blood flowing for the start of our weekends.

Will King P ever put us back to work or has he gone soft and finally cut us some slack?
